I just took a few moments to prowl through the French museums’ photo site for images of meals. Many of these are of historical or religious scenes but use clothes and customs of the painter’s time. Few are particularly ornate (bread and wine are sometimes all we see). Certainly, nothing suggesting the ornate sauces and stews found in period cookbooks appears, probably because roasts and loaves of bread simply looked less cluttered for painterly purposes. But some might be of interest nonetheless:
